Chew Chew 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd) VS Bandar Puteri 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd).

As promised to all, I will try Bandar Puteri 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd). Finally, I have tried it this afternoon. Infact, I have overheard from a few friends that this restaurant serves stink! stink! 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd). Is this more stink than Chew Chew 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd)?? The answer is YES!!!!

This restaurant is located opposite Haier warehouse at Bandar Puteri Puchong. The owner Frank Ang took over this business 5 months ago. He was gratuated from Taiwan and he is also passionate about good food. This shop serves Taiwanese cruising. The chef also from Taiwan and their famous dishes is 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd)!

The interior is simple and neat.
Look no different from "Chew Chew" except the plate they use. 1 portion has 6 pieces. The appearance is lighter colour as compare to Chew Chew and the sauce is different.
It has a brown sauce laid on top of the fermented beancurd. According to the owner, this sauce is special order from Taiwan. The taste is so unique. I can taste some mince garlic inside this special sauce. Can't really figure out what sauce it is.
Can you see the different between this fermented beancurd and Chew Chew fermented beancurd? Ok. Chew Chew fermented beancurd deep fried until 80% crispy and 20% still raw. Whereas, this fermented beancurd fried 20% crispy and 80% raw. However, Chew Chew also has the Taiwan style fermented beancurd with 10% crispy and 90% raw. Despite Chew Chew Taiwan fermented beancurd has the ratio 10:90 but it is not as stink as this fermented beancurd.

This is their speical sauce. You can see some fermented bean(豆酱)in the sauce.  Whereas, Chew Chew is using homemake garlic chilli sauce. If you take this sauce alone, you feel a bit salty. But when you dip the fermented beancurd in it and eat, it will enhanced the "stink smell" and the smell will linger in you mouth and I was kind of like enjoy the aroma of the fermented beancurd. So nice. the more you chew, the more the "stink" release. Yummy. Buy the way, it is not spicy compare to Chew Chew fermented beancurd.

The tangy cabbage pickle. The boss said his pickle is better than Chew Chew. Very subjective. This is less sour.

This is another delicacy remended by the boss. Taiwan sausage. This sausage is bigger than the normal Taiwan sausage that we normally see. The taste is nice. You can eat it with garlic flake(white colour showed in the photo). I found that it is normal and I can't give much comment about this and only can said "nice".

Look at this. This pot I have never try because this pot need to book and special order. I'm really looking forward to try this. Allegedly when they served this pot, some off the customers ran away because cannot stand the smell. For those hardcore 臭豆腐 lover, you should try this man! it serves hot with numb and spicy.

Finallly, you can find their contact as followed:
金台湾(Jin Taiwan)
70, Jalan Puteri 5/1, Bandar Puteri Puchong, Selangor
Tel: 017-7287216 or 03-80601051

Come back to the captioned, which one is the best? I would said if you want crispy and spicy, then opp for Chew Chew. If you want stronger taste, try this.

D'FORTUNE restaurant at Bandar Menjalara-Kepong

This afternoon, me and my friend Mr Lee were going to Bandar Menjalara to hunt for good food. We were attracted by a big sign board written"D'FORTUNE". After look at the menu, we decided to have our lunch here. (Sound weird to have lunch with a guy in the afternoon at Western Restaurant)
This place looks empty and we thought nobody were having lunch here.

                                                                                                                               .
The moment we enter the place,  its' look cozy and comfortable.

A bit of Balinese style with wooden chair and table. This is so romantic if having a candle light dinner here. But me..........haha with my buddy.
The waiteress is preparing utensil for us. This place is clean.

This is lunch crowd. A few tables were ocupied. Supprisingly in the afternoon has such a crowd at Western Restaurant. I think at night is even more crowded.

Here come the appertizer--Half dozen Escargot. Hot! Hot!

This is the main course ---Mixed Grill. This mixed grill come with chicken, lamb and big prawn. The lamb is tender and chicken is well crill. The chef is using some herbs to grill both lamb and chicken. Taste is awesome.!

The lamb was so juicy and tender.
This is the mushroom sauce for the lamb and chicken. Quite stronge the mushroom aroma but a bot plain the taste.

Not forget this  carrot with milk. Nice!

By the way, after praised some of the foods, I think I'm not satisfy with the food overall. Why????

Look at this, it is all oil that left behind the tray. Too oilly. Furthermore, the escargots meat is too soft. Poor  mouth feel.

Not only that, the prawn is not properly cook. The shell of the prawn is cook but the flesh still raw. How can this happened ?The customer might get food poisoning if the food is not properly done. This has affected my rating to this Western Restaurant. I will not go back agian.

Hope I don't get food poisoning tonight.!!!!!

猪朋狗友 (Hog and dog buddy)-- The only one in KL

Hei Guy, If you are from Kepong, if you don't know about this shop, you better go and try it. This restaurant has been around for more the 30 years  and  it is hidden behind the Esso Mobil gas station at Taman Essan, Kepong. The restaurant is call "Woo Ng Kee".  This restaurant owner is the second generation ( inherited business from his father). I get to know this shop when my customer took me there 8 years ago. And until today, it is still famous.

Front door is written "famous with Curry Fishh Head"

Yes, This is their"Speciality"-- 猪朋狗友 (Hog and dog buddy)

You know why they name it "猪朋狗友 (Hog and dog buddy)"? because they are using the spices that used to cook Dog meat but instead they are using Pork.

Roasted Duck is one for their recommended dish.

The photo showed some duck meats were missing. This is because the Roasted Duck is  too tempting and I have to taste is while hot before I snap a photo.

One of my favourate food--Curry fishh Head.
It is not easy to find a good Curry Fish Head. I have once rated Setia Alam “顺记海鲜饭店”has the best Curry Fish Head in town. And this is one of the good Curry Fish Head.

This is plan vege. Nothing special.

Guess what. All together 4 of us order the above dishes. How much do you think???
It is only cost us RM 60.80. I tell you, if you are looking a good food, good price. This is probably a good restraurant you are looking for. Don't miss it.

62 years old vintage chinese restaurant at Jalan Pudu

If you happen to pass by along Jalan Pudu, you try to heed on your left hand side (on the way to Puduraya), you can see an old restaurant that pack with people. The crowd has drew my attention while I was on my way to "Inner Mongolian Restaurant". We couldn't find "Inner Mongolian Restaurant" after a few rounds at Jalan Pudu.Maybe they have moved. But finally me and my family decided to go to this vintage restaurant at Jalan Pudu. The restaurant name is
SEK YUEN RESTORAN

We have order Roasted Duck, Kailan with " mixed pork" and Fried egg with sharkfin. Roasted duck is so so only and the Kailan is good and Fried egg with Sharkfin is marvelous.

Dinner at 绿光 Hawker Centre, Sunway Mentari

A friend brought me to a braise duck(卤鸭)store at Sunway Mentari (a few doors away from Oldtown).  Look at the store it printed "Famous in Singapre". It is running by 2 foreigners. I have ordered duck meat, pig stomach, pig intestinan and an egg. The broth looks thicker, darker and a single familiar spices smell was prominent. The pig stomach, intestinal and egg is normal. But the dark texture is  tender and has mild duck aroma. It's blend well with the gravy.  Total cost is RM 10.80 plus rice. Add rice is RM 1.20. For narmal dinning, you can give it a try. Next time I will introdue another one which is better than this. You might guess the shop at PJ State. The answer is NO! It is also a small store in PJ. Stay tune and I will bring you all there later.  BTW, want to know where got good Hockien Mee  and where it's originated??  I will also give you an  update.

Coffee Of The Day

Anyone know where coffee originated and the history about coffee? Link this to find out more. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_coffee.

I used to resist those food/drink might become addited or has stimulating effect. But lately, I was wondering why some peoples are so obsess with coffee and what is so unique about coffee? To find out this, I'm going to try it out myself.

I have tried drinking difference kinds of coffee ranging from 3 in 1 coffee, fresh brewed and local coffee. My preference is fresh brew. WHY??

Although the adulterated coffee will taste good but it has lose the original coffee taste. Exp: I have tried Maka coffee, red yeast coffee, fermented rice coffee, tongkat ali coffee, chocolate blend(moka) and etc. All taste really different.  How to evaluate the real coffee?
Today I'm going to share fresh brewed for franchise coffeehouse. Do you ever wonder which coffee is the best? DOME, Starbucks, Gloria jean's, The Coffee Bean etc? Among all, I think Starbucks is the best because the coffee is smooth, clean aroma and the aroma will linger in you mouth after sipped. Most importantly, is has no bitter and sour taste. If you compare Starbucks and The Coffee Bean, obviously it will tell the difference. Try it yourselves.

A few peoples had told me IKEA cafe used to serve very good fresh brewed but it had changed the coffee bean recently. I tried before and the coffee is average. Mcdonald used to claim premium coffee for breakfast(advertise on TV) but is a bit diluted.  Hai Siang Kopitiam(at Bandar Puteri Puchong) the coffee is nice but set back is he can't solve the sediment problem. Coffee Place Kopitiam(at Kepong) serve quite good coffee. (all the food serve at this restoran not too bad. will introdue next time). Almost forgetten about Nescafe, it has a good local coffee aroma (I think got flavour) but I don't like it. However, it has a good stimulant effect. If you take it early morning (especially you are half awake), you will feel the "Uhmm!" and you will be totally awake. Not only that, subsequently you will become addited to it and very hard resist "Nescafe"! By the way, what make the "Uhmm!"?  I think is the "natural caffeine".( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffeine )

For those hardcore coffee lover, have you heard of  LUWAK Coffee? I think is the most expensive coffee so far.Try this link to know more:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak. Must try it once in a life time. I have never heard of this coffee until my friend from Hong Kong told me that.

starbucks kelana jaya giant
I think that's all for now.
Wait!!! got Starbuck moon cake (coffee flavour) free tasting. Yummy! Can buy and try. Taste good.

Price is RM 32.80 for a box(2 cakes inside).
BTW, Fresh brewed regular cost RM7.90 . In fact, the volumn for regular fresh brewed at Starbucks is amost equal to 2 cups of Old town white coffee. When add up price for 2 cups Oldtown whit coffee, the price is almost RM 7.90. Might as well go for Starbucks. Moreover Starbucks serve free sky juice.

臭豆腐(stink beancurd)----- Best in town

臭豆腐(stink beancurd) is very common now a day. You can eat it at Pasar Malam or shop. I still remember 20 years ago when we watched Hong Kong movie, the Hongkie like 臭豆腐(stink beancurd)very much and they don't mine to queue up at the street eventhough the whether is cool, just to buy 臭豆腐(stink bean curd). Now you can see this scene not at the street but at Pasar Malam in KL. I still remember every Tuesday at Sri Petaling Pasar Malam, there used to have a long queue, people waiting to buy 臭豆腐(stink beancurd). At that time, I thought I just walk around and hopefully the crowd will getting lesser later. However, after walking around and back to the store, the queue has no difference compare half an hour ago. Conclussion is, quite a lot of KL people like 臭豆腐(stink beancurd) very much. I'm one of them.

This afternoon, my friend just brought me to a shop near Selayang(After Tesco). Guess what, this shop is selling 臭豆腐(stink beancurd) and the shop name sound familiar to me. When I looking at the "cut out" on the wall, they are famous at "9 gods temple" at Ampang and Pasar Malam. When I glance at a photo, I can barely see the boss face and I can confirm he is the guy at Sri Petaling Pasar Malam.

Honestly, long time I didn't try Sri Petaling 臭豆腐(stink beancurd) but this is the best 臭豆腐(stink beancurd) in KL i can comment. I used to try 臭豆腐(stink beancurd) at Jinjang Pasar Malam, Setia Alam Pasar Malam, Ipoh East pasar malam. But so far this is the best.

Why I said is the best so far?
1) the bean curb is so crispy after fried compare others
2) when you bite it,it has no foul smell come out from the beancurd
3) the chilli sauce is so well blend compare others
4) the preserve cabbage is well marinated
5) serve it hot
My friend that brought me there used to avoid 臭豆腐(stink beancurd) store at pasar malam but now he become addited to it.

I know there is one Taiwanese restorant at Bandar Puteri Puchong serving 臭豆腐(stink beancurd). I will try it later can compare with this 臭豆腐(stink beancurd). I will share with you all.

By the way, they best part about this shop is you need not to queue up because not many customers in the afternoon. Apart from that, they serve with difference sauce like maiyonise, Thai style and etc.. I think the best is still the original style. Price is RM 2.50 per piece.

They used to have a store at Subang Jaya (near Inti college there, I think they have cease operation there.

Anyway, you can try their authentic 臭豆腐(stink beancurd) if you happen around there.

臭豆腐(stink beancurd) with chilli sauce and mayonnaise sauce. Yummy!!
Taiwan style 臭豆腐(stink beancurd) is juicy, smooth inside. Less crispy as compare to original. But I like it because the taste is stronger.

First Time

Hi, this is my first time blogging. This blog is mainly feature good food in Malaysia. The idea was suddenly pop up yesterday when I was going out to have dinner with my family. On the way to the restoran ( which I already know where to bring them to), I was wondering, every weekend we are going out to have dinner outside, why not I just share my experiance with my friends. I will give my personal view and comment on the food and whether to recommend or not.

I was damn piss off when sometimes the TV showed a good food at the particular restoran. However, when we try ourselves, the food is really suck!. What's wrong with it???? A).Are they being paid to talk as such or B). I was unlucky that day. Whatever it is, i m sure you all already have an answer. : )

No matter how, I hope you all will enjoy reading my blog.

Lastly, I hope you all can also participate in my blog as I know some of you are very "PRO" in Hunting for good food.

Regards,

John Ngoi
