Jaya One Roasted Duck- DUCK KING (王帝鸭)

Finally, me and my friends had visited this restaurant at Jaya One. It is located in the centre of Jaya One complex. My friend was highly recommended this as he claimed that the Roasted duck skin is crispy and less ducky smell.  With the name "DUCK KING", I  have higher expectation on this shop. My friend said this is the best roasted duck he has ever had. Better than Long Fong and Yat Shen.  I shall see how it is better than Long Fong and Yat Shen.

This place is packed in the afternoon. Most of the customer are enjoying the food very much
Lunch hour during the weekday ( Wednesday). Crowded. It is amazing!

We can see how is the kitchen work. It is only separated with a thick layer of glass. The chef are busy preparing food for the customers. At lease we can see how clean is the kitchen if we are able to see through the kitchen.

This is the duck we have ordered. Look at the roasted duck, it is very well cut and nice presentation.

Crispy Roasted Pork Belly

"Char Siew"  /BBQ pork .Very well Roasted too. No "Char" on the meat. Perfect!

Deep Fried Crispy Kai Lan. All the food seem very well prepare and nice presentation. Really a very high standard restaurant.

Anyway, no matter how nice is the food presented, I think the most important is the skill of the chef and the taste of the food.

When I bite the Roasted Duck meat, it is really crispy on the skin. However, the meat is a bit soft. Like my friend said, no duck "bad odour" . After second piece of meat. I realise why no "bad odour". I will make conclusion on it later.

The roasted pork is my favourate dish. The skin of the pork is very very crispy  and the evenly roast. Awesome!. But the flesh/meat is a bit dry. Anyway, we cannot expect this as this is not the whole pig cut. Therefore, it is expected less juicy.

This "Char Siew/ BBQ port" is very well roasted also. Like I mentioned earlier, it does not have the Char on the surface. Very well done.

It is look like the food is highly recommended right? I would say- NO. Why???

1)  Let's look at the Roasted Duck, It has crispy skin, yes but this is nothing special because it is only treated with hot oil before serve. However, the meat/flesh is very soft and the duck taste is milder, this is because they put the duck into the fridge to marinate for too long.  No wonder my friend said the roasted duck here has no bad odour. (imagine if you take KFC, once you bite the fresh chicken, you can feel the juiciness of the chicken and tenderness of meat with the nice chicken aroma. It is the same theory for duck). Therefore, I can comment this is not fresh duck and you can't get the juiciness and original aroma of the duck like fresh duck. That why I say no good because is not fresh.

However, you can't blame them as this is the Hong Kong style Roasted Duck. The Hong Kong style is they have to put into the fridge to marinate over night before roasted.. Those that like to take plain duck meat with any aroma or taste but with the crispiness of the skin can try this.

2) The Roasted Pork belly skin is well roasted but less juicy compared to whole roasted pig. Once again, this in nothing special as I can easily  find something similar or a bunch of them in KL

3) "Char Siew" I would expect at lease they have a strong "Char Siew" smell or taste but no. It is quite normal like other chicken rice shop in Klang Valley.
4)  Deep Fried Kai Lan- It is crispy. Now is very common in KL also.

From all the comment above, you know what, they theme is "special food of all". I don't see any special a part from the price.

This is the price: Roasted Duck -RM 52 per duck,  "Char Siew" and Roasted Pork RM 28.00 , Hong Kong Kai Lan (IMPORTED)-RM 20.80. Btw, this price is subject to 10% service charges and 5% gov tax.

Anyway, I can summarize the roasted duck in town. If you are looking for stronger duck taste, Long Fong is your choice. If you are looking for less stronger duck taste, Yat Shen is your choice. Both of them serve fresh suckling duck with juicy and tender duck meat texture.     The only difference is the duck size is bigger for Long Fong roasted duck compared to Yat Shen. That's why Long Fong duck has stronger duck taste (not bad odour)  compare to Yat Shen. Anyway, Yat Shen has and appetiser soup to serve that make you feel more appealing to the duck.  If you are looking for tasteless duck(like my friend), you can go to any of the so call " Hong Kong Style" roasted duck. It will definitely suit you.

I think that is all for the above. If you all experience better roasted duck then the above 2 restaurants, let me know and I  will go and try.
