Jaya One Roasted Duck- DUCK KING (王帝鸭)

Finally, me and my friends had visited this restaurant at Jaya One. It is located in the centre of Jaya One complex. My friend was highly recommended this as he claimed that the Roasted duck skin is crispy and less ducky smell.  With the name "DUCK KING", I  have higher expectation on this shop. My friend said this is the best roasted duck he has ever had. Better than Long Fong and Yat Shen.  I shall see how it is better than Long Fong and Yat Shen.

This place is packed in the afternoon. Most of the customer are enjoying the food very much
Lunch hour during the weekday ( Wednesday). Crowded. It is amazing!

We can see how is the kitchen work. It is only separated with a thick layer of glass. The chef are busy preparing food for the customers. At lease we can see how clean is the kitchen if we are able to see through the kitchen.

This is the duck we have ordered. Look at the roasted duck, it is very well cut and nice presentation.

Crispy Roasted Pork Belly

"Char Siew"  /BBQ pork .Very well Roasted too. No "Char" on the meat. Perfect!

Deep Fried Crispy Kai Lan. All the food seem very well prepare and nice presentation. Really a very high standard restaurant.

Anyway, no matter how nice is the food presented, I think the most important is the skill of the chef and the taste of the food.

When I bite the Roasted Duck meat, it is really crispy on the skin. However, the meat is a bit soft. Like my friend said, no duck "bad odour" . After second piece of meat. I realise why no "bad odour". I will make conclusion on it later.

The roasted pork is my favourate dish. The skin of the pork is very very crispy  and the evenly roast. Awesome!. But the flesh/meat is a bit dry. Anyway, we cannot expect this as this is not the whole pig cut. Therefore, it is expected less juicy.

This "Char Siew/ BBQ port" is very well roasted also. Like I mentioned earlier, it does not have the Char on the surface. Very well done.

It is look like the food is highly recommended right? I would say- NO. Why???

1)  Let's look at the Roasted Duck, It has crispy skin, yes but this is nothing special because it is only treated with hot oil before serve. However, the meat/flesh is very soft and the duck taste is milder, this is because they put the duck into the fridge to marinate for too long.  No wonder my friend said the roasted duck here has no bad odour. (imagine if you take KFC, once you bite the fresh chicken, you can feel the juiciness of the chicken and tenderness of meat with the nice chicken aroma. It is the same theory for duck). Therefore, I can comment this is not fresh duck and you can't get the juiciness and original aroma of the duck like fresh duck. That why I say no good because is not fresh.

However, you can't blame them as this is the Hong Kong style Roasted Duck. The Hong Kong style is they have to put into the fridge to marinate over night before roasted.. Those that like to take plain duck meat with any aroma or taste but with the crispiness of the skin can try this.

2) The Roasted Pork belly skin is well roasted but less juicy compared to whole roasted pig. Once again, this in nothing special as I can easily  find something similar or a bunch of them in KL

3) "Char Siew" I would expect at lease they have a strong "Char Siew" smell or taste but no. It is quite normal like other chicken rice shop in Klang Valley.
4)  Deep Fried Kai Lan- It is crispy. Now is very common in KL also.

From all the comment above, you know what, they theme is "special food of all". I don't see any special a part from the price.

This is the price: Roasted Duck -RM 52 per duck,  "Char Siew" and Roasted Pork RM 28.00 , Hong Kong Kai Lan (IMPORTED)-RM 20.80. Btw, this price is subject to 10% service charges and 5% gov tax.

Anyway, I can summarize the roasted duck in town. If you are looking for stronger duck taste, Long Fong is your choice. If you are looking for less stronger duck taste, Yat Shen is your choice. Both of them serve fresh suckling duck with juicy and tender duck meat texture.     The only difference is the duck size is bigger for Long Fong roasted duck compared to Yat Shen. That's why Long Fong duck has stronger duck taste (not bad odour)  compare to Yat Shen. Anyway, Yat Shen has and appetiser soup to serve that make you feel more appealing to the duck.  If you are looking for tasteless duck(like my friend), you can go to any of the so call " Hong Kong Style" roasted duck. It will definitely suit you.

I think that is all for the above. If you all experience better roasted duck then the above 2 restaurants, let me know and I  will go and try.

Famous Buntong Wan Tan Mee(云吞麵)

This is the continue of Buntong, Ipoh trip. Review the "Famous Buntong Bean Sprout Chicken", prior to that, we purposely drive from Ipoh Garden to Buntong,Ipoh just wanted to try "Famous Buntong Wan Tan Mee". This shop was once very famous in Ipoh whereby customers have to queue up to order Wan Tan Mee. Let's see how good is the Wan Tan Mee.

Look at this old man so engross in cooking Wan Tan Mee. FYI, this old man is the boss.

.

This is the evening crowd at 9.15pm. full house. No joke. A small place but yet have such a crowd. Must be very famous.

The shop name is Cheong Kee (祥记). The board also engraved surname 陈

The appearance is so appealing. Eee...! the meat look difference from others. Suppose to be "Char Siew" but this is different. Let's look at the bigger picture as follow.
This is like braise mince meat. But don't know how's the taste.
When I lifted up the noodle with my chop stick, I got a feeling, is it really good? The noodle look so sticky! How is the taste? Ok, I will tell you last at my comment. Now take a look at the Wan Tan (云吞).

                                                                           What is this???

The Wan Tan (云吞) is small. How's the taste?

Finally, this is my comment on the noodle. You know I have ordered 1 1/2  portion for the noodle. I was a bit regrets  when I lifted my chop stick(as showed in the photo). It is sticky. I asked myself  "can I finished the whole plate? " When I put the noodle into my mouth, OMG! it is salty. No other taste but saltiness. You can imagine how can I finished my 1 1/2 potion? But I have no choice as I don't like to waste food. Still I bare myself to finish it.(suffering man!). The noodle texture is too soft and the sauce/gravy is thick and salty. The mince meat is well mixed with the salty gravy. The Bean Sprout is nice ( no comment on bean sprout).

The Wan Tan (云吞) has nothing special. Just the Wan Tan skin wrapped with the meat(not even prawn). Quit disappointed. Overall I can't get satisfaction. That's why we decided to go to take the Buntong, "Famous Buntong Bean Sprout Chicken" later.

RM2.00 a glass of "Teh Peng". Most expensive in town

Have you ever try RM2.00 per glass of Teh Ais at traditional coffee shop??? You will probably say "what so great about this?" RM2.00 only!
If you happen to be around Segambut, KL. Try to look for this shop.It is only 2 doors away from Public Bank, Segambut. You will surprise that how come this shop selling Teh Air and Kopi Air for RM2.00 per glass. This is Crazy!
The interior of the shop has no different from the other traditional coffee shop. Why charge so expensive? Somemore, no aircon.
Look ordinary. Still don't understand why charge so much.
Finally, this is the Teh Air. Look so common right? But the unique is the taste for the Teh Air. It is so rich, with a very well concoction of Vaporated Milk, Tea, and malt (i guess). And I would said is the awesome blend.
Some might say it is too rich and filling. I would say "NICE".  RECOMMENDED!

Famous Buntong Beansprout Chicken

I'm sure a lot you have familiar with Lou Wong, Onn Kee and Cowen Street right? They all serves Bean Sprout Chicken. Some say Onn Kee chicken is nice, some say Lou Wong chicken is nice. I think most peoples will prefer Cowen Street Beansprout Chicken- For those who has never try Ipoh Cowen Street Beansprout Chicken, go and try it. I will recommend.

Beside the above mentioned, have you all heard of Famous Buntong Bean Sprout Chicken? It is located nearby the morning market(Buntong Pasar). Their operation hour is from dawn until midnight. This shop have been there for  more then 20 years. This is the second time I was there and this time the purpose is to share with you all.

As usual, they serve Kuey Tiew (Hor Fan) soup or rice. I have ordered a bowl of Kuey Tiew because before that, I was  just have my dinner. (My dinner is Famous Wan Tan Mee at Buntong. I will tell you later). Look no difference from others except the soup look a bit pale.
The meat balls in soup is also my favourate dish. This meat balls is so springy and nice taste. It is probably the same supplier for Lou Wong and Onn Kee because taste and texture is about the same.

Wah!!! Ipoh bean sprout i can say is  the best bean sprout in the world.( Correct me if I'm wrong). When you bite, it is so juicy and crunchy. The best part is there is not awful taste as compared to those bean sprout in KL. I can finished one big plate of Ipoh bean sprout.

This is their chicken. The skin is more yellowish than other chicken because they serve only "kampung chicken" as compared to other.
The workers are all wearing uniform-blue T-shirt with yellow collar.
The place is still crowded after 10.30 pm.
This shop the worker are friendly and the chicken is not too bad. But nothing impressive. The Kuey Tiew is a bit hard and less smooth compare the Ipoh Town (not to mentioned the name). And the bean sprout is less juicy.(maybe soaked too long or over cook a bit).  I have no comment on the meat ball because it came from the same factory I guess. But the soup of the Kuey Tiew has less prawn taste. More toward the "meso soup"(味精汤).  I won't recomment, but if you want to try yourselves, you can contact the number as showed at the sign board. I hope they can improved and make it the best at Buntong/Ipoh.

Chew Chew 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd) VS Bandar Puteri 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd).

As promised to all, I will try Bandar Puteri 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd). Finally, I have tried it this afternoon. Infact, I have overheard from a few friends that this restaurant serves stink! stink! 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd). Is this more stink than Chew Chew 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd)?? The answer is YES!!!!

This restaurant is located opposite Haier warehouse at Bandar Puteri Puchong. The owner Frank Ang took over this business 5 months ago. He was gratuated from Taiwan and he is also passionate about good food. This shop serves Taiwanese cruising. The chef also from Taiwan and their famous dishes is 臭豆腐(Fermented Beancurd)!

The interior is simple and neat.
Look no different from "Chew Chew" except the plate they use. 1 portion has 6 pieces. The appearance is lighter colour as compare to Chew Chew and the sauce is different.
It has a brown sauce laid on top of the fermented beancurd. According to the owner, this sauce is special order from Taiwan. The taste is so unique. I can taste some mince garlic inside this special sauce. Can't really figure out what sauce it is.
Can you see the different between this fermented beancurd and Chew Chew fermented beancurd? Ok. Chew Chew fermented beancurd deep fried until 80% crispy and 20% still raw. Whereas, this fermented beancurd fried 20% crispy and 80% raw. However, Chew Chew also has the Taiwan style fermented beancurd with 10% crispy and 90% raw. Despite Chew Chew Taiwan fermented beancurd has the ratio 10:90 but it is not as stink as this fermented beancurd.

This is their speical sauce. You can see some fermented bean(豆酱)in the sauce.  Whereas, Chew Chew is using homemake garlic chilli sauce. If you take this sauce alone, you feel a bit salty. But when you dip the fermented beancurd in it and eat, it will enhanced the "stink smell" and the smell will linger in you mouth and I was kind of like enjoy the aroma of the fermented beancurd. So nice. the more you chew, the more the "stink" release. Yummy. Buy the way, it is not spicy compare to Chew Chew fermented beancurd.

The tangy cabbage pickle. The boss said his pickle is better than Chew Chew. Very subjective. This is less sour.

This is another delicacy remended by the boss. Taiwan sausage. This sausage is bigger than the normal Taiwan sausage that we normally see. The taste is nice. You can eat it with garlic flake(white colour showed in the photo). I found that it is normal and I can't give much comment about this and only can said "nice".

Look at this. This pot I have never try because this pot need to book and special order. I'm really looking forward to try this. Allegedly when they served this pot, some off the customers ran away because cannot stand the smell. For those hardcore 臭豆腐 lover, you should try this man! it serves hot with numb and spicy.

Finallly, you can find their contact as followed:
金台湾(Jin Taiwan)
70, Jalan Puteri 5/1, Bandar Puteri Puchong, Selangor
Tel: 017-7287216 or 03-80601051

Come back to the captioned, which one is the best? I would said if you want crispy and spicy, then opp for Chew Chew. If you want stronger taste, try this.

D'FORTUNE restaurant at Bandar Menjalara-Kepong

This afternoon, me and my friend Mr Lee were going to Bandar Menjalara to hunt for good food. We were attracted by a big sign board written"D'FORTUNE". After look at the menu, we decided to have our lunch here. (Sound weird to have lunch with a guy in the afternoon at Western Restaurant)
This place looks empty and we thought nobody were having lunch here.

                                                                                                                               .
The moment we enter the place,  its' look cozy and comfortable.

A bit of Balinese style with wooden chair and table. This is so romantic if having a candle light dinner here. But me..........haha with my buddy.
The waiteress is preparing utensil for us. This place is clean.

This is lunch crowd. A few tables were ocupied. Supprisingly in the afternoon has such a crowd at Western Restaurant. I think at night is even more crowded.

Here come the appertizer--Half dozen Escargot. Hot! Hot!

This is the main course ---Mixed Grill. This mixed grill come with chicken, lamb and big prawn. The lamb is tender and chicken is well crill. The chef is using some herbs to grill both lamb and chicken. Taste is awesome.!

The lamb was so juicy and tender.
This is the mushroom sauce for the lamb and chicken. Quite stronge the mushroom aroma but a bot plain the taste.

Not forget this  carrot with milk. Nice!

By the way, after praised some of the foods, I think I'm not satisfy with the food overall. Why????

Look at this, it is all oil that left behind the tray. Too oilly. Furthermore, the escargots meat is too soft. Poor  mouth feel.

Not only that, the prawn is not properly cook. The shell of the prawn is cook but the flesh still raw. How can this happened ?The customer might get food poisoning if the food is not properly done. This has affected my rating to this Western Restaurant. I will not go back agian.

Hope I don't get food poisoning tonight.!!!!!
